FAQ Battery Winter Storage

How do I store my HMW battery correctly in winter?
It is best to store the battery removed, in a fireproof battery bag (not mandatory) and in a cool, dry place, for example in the basement.
The ideal storage temperature is around 10–15 °C. You should strictly avoid frost, direct heat, and moisture.

At what charge level should the battery be stored?
The optimal charge level for the winter break is between 30% and 70%. Ideal is around 50%
A fully charged or heavily discharged battery ages faster. A medium charge level protects the cells and extends the service life.

Do I need to charge the battery regularly in winter?
No, continuous charging is not necessary
You should only recharge the battery if the remaining capacity falls below approx. 30%. You can recognize this by the fact that only one green light is still lit on the battery.
After recharging, it is sufficient to bring the battery back to approx. 50–60% – a full charge is not required.

How often should I check the battery during the winter break?
We recommend briefly checking the charge level every 2–3 months. This simple check helps to avoid deep discharge and ensures that your HMW is ready to go immediately in the spring.

Can I leave the battery in the vehicle?
Basically yes, but we recommend taking the battery out for longer periods of inactivity and storing it separately. This protects it better from the cold and makes it easier to check.

Why is correct storage so important?
The battery is the heart of our HMW Electrics. Correct storage:

  • extends the service life
  • maintains the range
  • ensures reliable performance over many years

In short:
Store cool, maintain a medium charge level, check occasionally – this keeps your HMW in top form.
